Kassel is a town located on the Fulda River in northern Hesse, Germany. It is the administrative base of the Kassel Regierungsbezirk. Kassel is Hessen’s third-largest city. It is the main commercial, cultural, and social centre of the Northern Hessen region. The city centre offers a large range of cultural and leisure activities for visitors. Kassel is known for the Documenta exhibition of modern and contemporary art. There are many parks and green areas in the region, including Europe’s largest hill park with Wilhelmshöhe Castle, the Löwenburg, and the Herkules.

Other museums include New Gallery, the Museum of Natural History, Museum of physics and astronomy, and Marmorbad. Top-rated restaurants in the area include Il Teatro serving pizza and pasta, with both indoor and outdoor seating. There is also Osteria, also Italian, offering late night dining. It would be wise to make reservations due the popularity of these restaurants.

Transport Information

The city is served by Kassel Calden Airport, tram lines, and a light rail network called RegioTram. The city is connected to the national rail network at two stations, Kassel Central, and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. The Hanover-Würzburg high-speed rail line and its station Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe provides InterCityExpress (ICE) and InterCity services. Kassel is linked to the motorways A 7, A 49 and A 44.
