Cinisello Balsamo is a municipal area in the province of Milan that was formed in the year 1928 when two separate areas known as Cinisello and Balsamo were merged. The area was conferred with the honorary title of city in the year 1972. The word Cinisello is believed to originate from the Latin word ‘Cinis’ which means ashes, and is an apt indicator for the immensely fertile, ashen coloured soil in the region.
