Bur Dubai or Mainland Dubai, is a historic district on the western side of the Dubai Creek in the city of Dubai, within the United Arab Emirates. The district is home to several mosques, such as the Grand Mosque and the blue tiled Iranian Mosque, as well as the Hindu Temple. Several other tourist attractions are located in Bur Dubai, including museums, renovated historic buildings, shopping streets, and souqs.

Bur Dubai is a popular residential area that has many apartment buildings. In the last few years, works have been undertaken to turn it into an island. The district is also home to many small shops, souqs, several mosques, and an abra boat station. Dubai’s economy is influenced by the presence of the largest man-made harbour in the world - Jebel Ali Port - ranked seventh in the world for container traffic. The city is an IT, media and financial hub, with its free zoned Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City, which have attracted many large corporations. Companies with office space or other facilities in the area include Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, and IBM.

Bur Dubai has a lot to offer in terms of sights and activities. The district is situated near the Al Bastakiya historic area, and is located east of the Dubai Museum and the Al Fahidi Fort which is famous for its wind towers. Bur Dubai faces the sea and Dubai Creek. Here you will find the Port Rashid, Sheikh Saeed House, Dubai World Trade Centre, and Dubai International Financial Centre. Other points of interest in the area include the Creek Side Park, Planet Hollywood, Wonderland, and Splashland, as well as Khor Dubai Wildlife Sanctuary. Bur Dubai has a variety of restaurants offering diverse cuisine options. Sind Punjab serves authentic Indian meals, Al Bandar is known for its fresh seafood, Dynasty prepares Chinese dishes, and Claypot offers a range of curries.

Transport Information

Getting to Bur Dubai is quite easy, as Dubai International Airport is only 15 km (9 miles) away. From there, the district is reachable by the Dubai Metro Red Line, which goes through Bur Dubai. There are numerous Metro stations in Bur Dubai including Oud Metha, Al Karama and Dubai Healthcare City Metro Station 1. There is an extensive public bus network to be accessed from the Bur Dubai district and taxis are also a popular mode of transit.
