Nice is a seaport city, a Mediterranean tourist centre, and the capital of Alpes-Maritimes department, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur région, in south-eastern France. The city is located on the Baie (bay) des Anges, 20 miles (32 km) from the Italian border. Sheltered by beautiful hills, Nice has a pleasant climate and is the leading resort city of the Côte d’Azur, or French Riviera. This is the perfect place to sit in the sun and sip cocktails, splash in the azure sea, or simply watch the “bladders” (roller-bladders) cruise the Bay of Angels until the sun goes down and the fairy-lights on the palm trees turn on.

Business Information

Tourism, both in summer and winter, is one of the city’s principal economic activities. Apart from the beaches and yachting harbour, tourism is stimulated by Nice’s cultural facilities, shops, and architectural heritage. Nice offer’s incentives for business tourism, such as the facilities of the Acropolis Congress Centre and associated exhibition halls. Nice is a major commercial and administrative centre in the east of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Numerous small and medium-sized factories are located at Nice, particularly in the Var Plain to the west. More recent economic development is associated with the large neighbouring science park at Sophia-Antipolis. High-technology firms there often work closely with the University of Nice (established 1965). A partial list of companies in the Sophia Antipolis centre includes 3Roam, Accenture, Air France, Altran Praxis (software house), Amadeus - a travel industry IT company, and American Express Business Travel. Companies looking for office space in the area of Nice have a wide range of choices.

Entertainment And Dining Out

The Musée Jules Chéret des Beaux-Arts and the Musée Masséna have collections of early Italian paintings and works by 19th-century and contemporary artists. A memorial to the painter Marc Chagall has been built to house a collection of biblical paintings donated by the artist in 1966. If you’re looking good food but you don’t want to break the bank try Nissa Socca located in old town. If you would like to sample some authentic niçoise cuisine then this restaurant is a great choice. Options vary from the socca to a slice of pissaladière (a thick crust covered with puréed onions and garlic, topped with anchovies and olives) or, of course, the pizza.

Transport Information

Nice’s international airport, Aéroport International Nice-Côte d’Azur is about 6km (3.7 miles) west of the city centre. Nice is linked to the national motorway network and is served by the high-speed train (TGV) connecting the city to Paris and northern France.
