Erfurt is the capital of Thuringia Land, a state in central Germany. It is located in the Thuringian Basin, on the Gera River, 200 miles (320 km) southwest of Berlin. Erfurt is a very popular city to visit as it has retained the feel of a medieval market town. This city offers many historic houses, bridges, winding cobblestone alleys, and church spires reaching toward the sky. Many of the buildings have decorative and colourful Renaissance or baroque facades.
